It is the science of making measurements from photographs, especially for recovering the exact positions of surface points. Based on a mix of computer vision and powerful computational geometry algorithms, the principle is to analyze several photographs taken from different viewpoints, and to automatically detect pixels corresponding to a same physical point. The data input required are the parameters of the camera such as focal length and lens distortion.

The main challenge is to analyze data and thousands of points with high accuracy. Our custom built and very powerful computer is used to run the algorithms. The main advantages of our 3D scanning technology are its precision and acquisition speed. Moreover, the technology is also capable of reconstructing subjects with mm accuracy. However, one downside of the technology is its sensitivity to shiny or reflective materials as the reflection distorts the data.
